About Me
This Alcoa community and its schools were an important part of my education, and this is now where I am fortunate enough to serve as an educator and leader.  As a student, I attended Alcoa from 3rd through 8th grade before moving to the county. After graduating from William Blount High School and The University of Tennessee, I returned to Alcoa in 1997 to teach.  I taught third, fourth, and fifth grades for 10 years at Alcoa Elementary School before stepping into the role of curriculum/testing coordinator and then assistant principal for AES.  Mr. McBride and I, along with our incredible 3rd-5th grade staff and faculty, transitioned to our current building and opened Alcoa Intermediate School in the fall of 2015.  This is my 22nd year working with Alcoa's students and families; and my 4th year serving as principal of Alcoa Intermediate School.
About Our School
At Alcoa Intermediate School, we are each leaders in learning. That means we believe both students and teachers should strive to be leaders of their own learning process. We spend purposeful time teaching and practicing qualities that effective leaders possess (including acceptance, creativity, empathy, resilience/grit, balance, reflection, diversity, confidence, and humor). The acronym we teach, practice, and reference in our school-wide daily expectations is L.E.A.D.E.R.
L - listen and learn
E - enter and exit prepared
A - achieve your goals
D - discipline yourself
E - encourage others
R - respect all
Our school places focus on these positive behaviors, and we work to establish a culture of learning that is inclusive and effective for all students. Our staff and students start each morning together in Community Time. This is a time of daily greeting, morning message, weekly leader focus, student recognition, and celebration of personal or academic achievements.
