Profile

Welcome!

I began my journey in the classroom as an afternoon teaching assistant for the kindergarten team at a local elementary school. In that position, I rotated through six different classrooms, assisting the teacher and students in any way that was needed. The following year I was asked to transfer to a third grade classroom and be the morning teaching assistant for a teacher in that grade level. That teacher considered me as more of a co-teacher than an assistant, and had me work with students individually and in small groups on a regular basis. My passion for teaching developed during that time and with the support of that teacher and my family, I decided to go back to school to pursue a career in teaching, receiving my Master's in Elementary Education with Licensure from Lincoln Memorial University.

Now, a little bit about me prior to becoming a teacher. I was born and raised in Texas. In 1997, I married my high school sweetheart and we moved to Charleston, SC, the first of many duty stations during his Naval career. While stationed in Kings Bay, GA, I enrolled in college and attended Valdosta State University and Brenau University, where I received my BBA in Management. During that time I worked full time as a front desk receptionist in a busy medical practice and attended classes in the evenings and on weekends. My husband and I moved to Maryville in 2002. We have been married for 25 years and have three amazing children.  Our oldest is a sophomore in college, our middle is a senior in high school and our youngest is an 8th grader. When I am not attending their soccer games, track meets, or orchestra performances, I enjoy traveling, working in my yard, and reading.

I love being a part of the Alcoa Intermediate School family. Go Tornadoes!
