Bethany Lay: AIS Music
I am absolutely thrilled to be the music teacher at Alcoa Intermediate School! This age group is incredibly special and I'm so grateful that I get to share the joy of singing and creating music with these students. Whether we are exploring the Kodály method, learning about our Composer of the Month, or strumming chords on the ukulele, my goal is to make music accessible and engaging for everyone.
I graduated from Maryville College with Bachelor's in Music Performance in 2015 and graduated from Tusculum University in 2022 with my Masters in Teaching. My journey in education began in 2020. I spent four wonderful years at Central High School teaching choir and musical theater, followed by two sweet years of teaching elementary choir and music. Transitioning to Alcoa was a natural fit for my family, as we are deeply rooted in the community. My husband is an English teacher at Alcoa High School, and both of our children have proudly attended Alcoa schools.
Music extends far beyond the classroom walls for me. I have had the honor of singing at Sacred Heart Cathedral on weekends since 2014. I also love being involved in local community theater and have performed in a variety of musicals over the years, including Mary Poppins, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma and many more.
When I’m not singing, teaching, or at a rehearsal, I am probably hanging out with animals, curled up with a good book, or drinking coffee or tea. I also love creating and writing, and I just genuinely love being around others and connecting with people.
I can't wait to make music with all of you this year!
