Hi! My name is Heather Hawkins. This is my 13th year teaching at Alcoa City Schools. I have taught K-2nd grades at Alcoa, but my favorite grade has been 3rd grade! This is my 4th year teaching 3rd grade.

I grew up in Marietta, GA. After graduating from Maryville College with a Child Development with Licensure Degree, I decided to stay in the area and continue teaching. I have a passion for teaching students how to read and to enjoy reading. I have done extensive research on the Orton-Gillingham Approach to phonics and decoding.

My husband Travis and I played soccer at Maryville College, which explains our love for Atlanta United Soccer! We have two children, Emma (7) and Taylor (4). We love playing with our dog Arya, being active at the gym, and being outside in the mountains.
